Despite the fact that I've used Christmas in Connecticut for the logo, my choice is actually going to be White Christmas.

A successful song-and-dance team become romantically involved with a sister act and team up to save the failing Vermont inn of their former commanding general. (from IMDb)

Holiday Cheer: 6/10 Quite honestly, I've long argued that this movie is not strictly a Christmas movie. It can be watched at any time of the year. The Christmas part of the movie lasts for about 10-20 minutes in a two hour film. However, as the movie does begin and end on Christmas day, it counts!

Feel-Good feeling: 10/10 This movie is so fun and so funny. I laugh at the same lines every time and certain songs (cough cough "The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing" cough cough) make me feel all happy about life - which is perfect at Christmas time. Good humor, good romance, and good music blend together in a fantastic feel-good movie in time for the holidays.

Overall: 10/10. This movie is always a winner in my book. Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time.

  1. The one time I saw White Christmas, it was in the middle of summer. I didn't hugely enjoy it, and found some of the dancing scenes too long. I did love the costumes though, and the songs weren't half bad. It's just not my fave I guess!

  2. This is such a great idea! It's really hard to choose a favorite Christmas movie, but since you've already done White Christmas and it seems that Christmas in Connecticut is another popular choice, that eliminates two main contenders. My choice is Period of Adjustment (Yes! I AM totally obsessed with the 1960s!).

Just a question: are we all supposed to do our posts in the format that you used?

    Happy Holidays!

  4. Amanda, it's really up to you. If you think it's a good format. If you're not crazy about it, then don't worry about following it! Thank you for participating! I can't wait to read your post (I've never seen that movie!)

  5. It's been a while since I've seen this movie (I'll definitely have to get it this Christmas!) so I don't remember it perfectly. One line I do remember is when the four main characters are sitting in a booth (in a train, I think) and someone says "boy girl, boy girl". My brothers and I quote that line a lot. It's kind of an in-joke I guess but it always makes me smile.

  6. Great idea Sally and great review. I will do Holiday Inn, if that's ok. And Audrey I can't wait to read your review on Christmas in Connecticut, my all time favorite Christmas movie.

  7. Instead of Holiday Inn which does feature Christmas but Doesn't center on that holiday. How about I do The Man Who Came to Dinner with Bette Davis and Ann Sheridan, since it's set around Christmas time? Because I do want to do something Sally.

  9. Hi Sally! You have such a great blog, and White Christmas has always been one of my favorite films! Also, this is a marvelous idea! May I participate? Could I write about Beware My Lovely (1952) with Ida Lupino and Robert Ryan (since it's relevant to my blog's subject)? It's not technically a Christmas movie, but it takes place during Christmas. I should have my post up in a few days!

  13. Love White Christmas. The color, the dancing, the spectacle and Vera-Ellen seducing Danny Kaye. You can't go wrong with that combo. :)

Let me know if you've already reached your limit of 12 contributions. It seems the slots are filling up before I can choose one to do for your blog-a-thon.
