"Fooling around will be unconstitutional."

Last week's quote: "Baby, leave us not forget that I'm a heel" was from Royal Wedding. It was sung in a song with the longest title ever: "How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Loved You When You Know I've Been A Liar All My Life?" which was written by Burton Lane and Alan Jay Lerner.

This week's quote is: "Fooling around will be unconstitutional."

  1. hmmm... sounds like something from 'Mr. Smith goes to Washington", perhaps? Honestly, I've never seen that one (I know, Huey has a LONG Bucket List of films not yet viewed...).

But, I'm typically WAY off on these... but I DO get to say HI, Sally! Hope Central Florida is treating you well! Hey, Katie (the 'Official Ginger Research Expert' (OGRE for short)) has moved from Chicago to down there SOMEWHERE nearby O-town...and she is a GONZO Disney fan, so... y'all need to touch base and hang out...

    KIG!!!

    1. Thanks Huey!! I'll have to try and look her up! To be honest, I've never seen "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" either. I think it's the last one on my to-see Frank Capra films.

  2. One of my favorites lines, from on of my favorites songs, from one of my favorite movies. It's from the lyrics of "Our United States," which Bob Fosse sang to Debbie Reynolds in the MGM film Give a Girl a Break (1953). The lyrics were written by Ira Gerswhin, but I can't remember who wrote the music. The film also starred Marge and Gower Champion, Helen Wood (I think), and Harvey Something-That-Starts-With-a-"K." Also, Lurene Tuttle as Debbie's mom. And if I'm remembering correctly, Hermes Pan (Ginger connection! Hi, Huey!) did the choreography. Costumes by Helen Rose (who else would you get for a minor MGM musical, right?). Not sure who the director was, though it has the characteristics of a Stanley Donen musical, so I'll guess him.

    I need a life.

    1. Wow. You did all of that without looking it up? That is insanely impressive. I think the Harvey guy is Kurt Kaszinar (or some spelling to that effect). And I recall Stanley Donen as being in the credits. I love that you can tell a Stanley Donen musical from the characteristics. That's pretty stinking brilliant.

  3. Just checked IMDb, and it turns out that I only got two things wrong: Stanley Donen and Gower Champion did the choreography, and it was Kurt Kasznar instead of Harvey What's-His-Name. Considering that everything else was right: I still need a life. : )

    Have a great day!
